Robert Stephens '41 played Huskies football in the era of two-way, 60 minute players, and the multi-sport athlete. He quarterbacked Michigan Tech's team for three years, and was captain during the 1940 campaign. Sports Illustrated honored him for a record 11-11 passing performance and listed him on its All-America check list. He earned four letters in football and three each in basketball and boxing.

He went on to play a season with the Milwaukee Chiefs in the old American Football League, then turned his attention to officiating. He refereed football in the Sourthern Conference for 25 years, including an appearance in a 1969 bowl. He also officiated basketball in the West Virginia College Conference, working the NAIA playoffs twice.

Stephens was the first president of the Huskies Club and has been a member of the MTU Alumni Association. He is currently president of Columbia Alloys, Inc. He holds a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering.
