A two-sport letterwinner, Karen Appel (Henegar) participated in
both women's volleyball and women's basketball during her Michigan
Tech career.
More prominently known for her abilities in volleyball, Appel
(Henegar when she played at MTU) was a four-year volleyball
letterwinner (1978-81) who earned team Most Valuable Player honors
as a senior.
She was the team's co-captain her final two seasons and in 1978
earned both the Digger and Scholastic Achievement Award.
Appel also played women's basketball for the 1978-79 season and
earned the team's Scholastic Achievement Award.
Following her freshman campaign at MTU, Appel was honored with
the Terry Wilson Award, significant of the top freshman femal
student-athlete at the school. She also earned the Raymond L. Smith
Award as the top senior female student-athlete follwing her senior
campaign.
