When opponents saw George Lyle, class of 1976, coming down the
wing, it was time to get out of the way or pick yourself up off the
ice.
Lyle set single-season scoring records during his junior and
senior years and played during one of the most successful eras of
Huskies hockey ever.
In his three season with the team, MTU took two WCHA titles, one
NCAA championship, and finished as th NCAA runner-up twice.
Lyle continues to share the single-season record for goals (47)
with his linemate Mike Zuke, and is still third on the career
goal-scoring list for the Huskies. During his senior season
(1975-76), he was team captain, earned All-America honors, and was
an All-WCHA selection.
Lyle went on to play seven years in the Harford Whalers and
Detroit Red Wings systems and was "rookie of the year" for the
Whalers (then of the WHA) in 1977.
Since 1983, he has built a financial consultant and management
career with Smith Barney Shearson and is currently a vice president
and branch manager.
