PREVIEW: Huskies back to CCHA action at Bemidji State

OFF TO BRRMIDJI
• Michigan Tech travels to Bemidji State for the first CCHA series of 2026.
• The puck drops at 8:07 p.m. Eastern on Friday and 7:07 p.m. on Saturday at the Sanford Center.
• The Huskies are 12-8-2 overall and 7-3-2 in the CCHA.
• BSU is 9-8-3 overall and 7-2-3 in the CCHA.
• The teams split points in the first meeting in Houghton with a BSU shootout win after a 2-2 tie on Friday and a 2-1 Tech overtime win on Saturday.

• There are Michigan Tech Hockey Watch Parties in the Alumni Lounge at the MUB for both games at Bemidji State.

• All Michigan Tech home and CCHA games during the 2025-26 season will be live-streamed on Midco Sports Plus 2.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Bemidji State is 9-8-3 overall and 7-2-3 in the CCHA.
• The conference wins are over Augustana, Bowling Green, Lake Superior State, and Northern Michigan.
• The Beavers are 6-3-0 at home and haven't played a regular season game since Dec. 7.
• Adam Flammang leads the team with 24 points. Oliver Peer has 12 goals.
• Raythan Robbins and Max Hildebrand have split time between the pipes and both have at least four wins.
• Tom Serratore is in his 25th season as head coach.
• The Beavers were picked sixth in both CCHA Preseason Polls.
 
SERIES INFO
• Tech is 26-24-11 all-time against Bemidji State, dating back to 2007.
• The Huskies are 13-16-2 against the Beavers in Bemidji.
• BSU won a pair of games last season during the annual Winter Carnival series.
• Tech is 2-2-1 in the last five meetings and is 4-3-3 in the last 10 games.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• Tech split its weekend at the Desert Hockey Classic.
• The Huskies fell to Air Force and shutout Alaska Anchorage.
• Jack Anderson had a hat trick on Saturday and Teydon Trembecky scored twice while Elias Jansson, Carson Latimer also found the back of the net on the weekend.
 
ANDERSON HAT TRICK
• Jack Anderson had a hat trick in Saturday's 5-0 win over Alaska Anchorage.
• He scored the first two goals of the game in the first period and added the fifth goal of the game in the third.
• The last Michigan Tech defenseman to score a hat trick was Dave Reierson on January 12, 1985 against Boston University.
 
CCHA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Jack Anderson is the CCHA Defenseman of the.
• It was Tech's ninth player of the week honor this season and the first Defenseman of the Week award.
• Jack Anderson became the first defenseman in 40 years to score a hat trick for the Huskies, netting three goals in a 5-0 win over Alaska Anchorage on Saturday at the Desert Hockey Classic.
• Anderson is currently on a five-game point streak with four goals and three assists over the span.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
• The Huskies host No. 14 Minnesota State next weekend (Jan. 16-17) at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
• Tech travels to NMU on Jan. 23 and then hosts the Wildcats the next night on Jan. 24.
• January wraps up with the Huskies' first-ever appearance at the Lee & Penny Anderson Arena on Jan. 30-31.
 
STATISTICAL NOTES
• Stiven Sardarian is second in the nation in assists (20) and is fourth in points (29).
• Owen Bartoszkiewicz is second nationally in minutes played and fourth with 12 wins.
• Teydon Trembecky is fifth amongst NCAA freshmen with four power-play goals.
• Max Koskipirtti is ranked eighth in the nation in faceoff wins (227).
• Tech ranks second in the CCHA in penalty kill and faceoff winning percentage.
• Tech is 6-1-1 when leading after the first period and 6-0-2 when scoring the first goal of the third period.
• Five of Stiven Sardarian's nine goals have been scored in the third period.

COLLEGE HOCKEY INC NOTES
• Bill Muckalt is one of 11 new coaches across the country for the 2025-26 season.
• Michigan Tech is tied for the largest freshman class in the nation (12).
• 24 percent of Finlanders in college hockey are on Michigan Tech's roster (5-of-25).
• Seven of the 76 players in college hockey who played in the WHL are on Michigan Tech's roster.
• Coach Muckalt is one of six NCAA head coaches with NHL playing experience.
 
COACH MUCKALT
• Bill Muckalt was named the 23rd head coach at Michigan Tech on May 22, 2025.
• Muckalt returned to Houghton after one season as head coach of Lindenwood.
• Muckalt was an assistant coach at Tech for four seasons from 2011-15.
• Muckalt played 256 NHL games over five seasons with Vancouver, New York Islanders, Ottawa, and Minnesota. He scored 97 career points with 40 goals and 57 assists.
• He won two National Championships as a player at Michigan in 1996 and 1998 and was an All-American in 1998.
 
SPORTSCENTER TOP 10
• Carson Latimer's second-period goal at Northern Michigan on Nov. 8 checked in at number five on ESPN's top 10 plays of the night.
• It was also highlighted as No. 1 in the CCHA top plays of the week.
 
NON-CONFERENCE
• The Huskies went 5-5 in non-conference play.
• Tech split at No. 8 Minnesota on Oct. 3-4.
• The Huskies also split at Alaska on Oct. 17-18.
• Tech travels fell 6-4 at Clarkson on Oct. 31.
• The trip to New York wrapped up with a 3-0 shutout at St. Lawrence on Nov. 1.
• Tech opened the GLI with a 5-2 win over Miami and then fell 4-1 to No. 3 Michigan State in the title game.
• Non-conference play wrapped up at the Desert Hockey Class with a loss to Air Force and win over Alaska Anchorage.
 
CCHA FORWARD OF THE MONTH
• Stiven Sardarian has been named the CCHA Forward of the Month after he scored six goals and added seven assists in nine games in November, accumulating at least one point in eight of the nine contests.
• His 13 points ranked third in the NCAA. Sardarian had two goals and one assist against Northern Michigan (Nov. 7) and St. Thomas (Nov. 28).
 
CCHA ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
• Teydon Trembecky was named the CCHA Rookie of the Month for October after he scored five goals and added five assists in his first month of college hockey. He had three power-play goals, 23 shots on goal, and seven blocked shots.

CAPTAINS
• Junior Isaac Gordon is the captain of the 2025-26 Huskies.
• Junior Max Koskipirtti and seniors Jack Anderson and Joe Prouty are also on the leadership team as alternate captains.
 
PRESEASON ALL-CCHA
• Senior forward Stiven Sardarian was named to both the coaches' and media's Preseason All-CCHA Team.
• Junior forward Isaac Gordon was named to the coaches' Preseason All-CCHA Team.
 
ASSISTANT COACHES
• Benton Maass begins his first season as an Assistant Coach. Maass comes to Houghton after one season as an Assistant Coach at Lindenwood. As a defenseman, he played collegiately at New Hampshire and Minnesota State and appeared in 122 professional games in the AHL and ECHL.
• L.J. Scarpace begins his first season as an Assistant Coach. Scarpace comes to Houghton after serving as a video coach in the NHL since 2017. He most recently worked with Detroit for the past six seasons. As a goaltender, he played collegiately at Western Michigan and Michigan.
• Former Michigan Tech hockey player Tyler Shelast begins his fifth season as an assistant coach. Before being named an assistant coach, Shelast spent the previous eight seasons as the strength and conditioning coach for the Huskies.
 
PRESEASON CCHA COACHES POLL
• Tech was picked in a tie for third in the Preseason CCHA Coaches' Poll with Augustana. The Huskies earned a pair of first-place votes.
• St. Thomas and Minnesota State were the top two choices, with Bowling Green, Bemidji State, Lake Superior State, Ferris State, and Northern Michigan rounding out the poll.
 
PRESEASON CCHA MEDIA POLL
• Tech was picked fourth in the Preseason CCHA Media Poll behind Minnesota State, St. Thomas, and Bowling Green.
• Augustana, Bemidji State, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, and Northern Michigan rounded out the poll.

NHL DRAFT PICKS
• Carson Latimer was selected by Ottawa in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Draft with the 123rd pick. He is now a free agent.
• Kalem Parker was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft with the 181st pick. He is now a free agent.
• Stiven Sardarian was selected by Buffalo in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft with the 88th pick. He is now a free agent.
 
TRANSFERS
• Jack Anderson played three seasons and 90 games at Lindenwood (2022-25). He tallied 25 points with the Lions on four goals and 21 assists.
• Owen Baker played seven games in one season at Michigan State (2023-24). He notched two points with a goal and an assist.
• Owen Bartoszkiewicz played at Lindenwood in 2024-25, with a .919 save percentage and 2.57 goals-against average in 29 games. He played six games for Minnesota during the 2022-23 season with a 3.72 goals-against average and .883 save percentage.
• Joe Prouty played three seasons and 90 games at Lindenwood (2022-25). He tallied 21 points with the Lions with three goals and 18 assists.
• Stiven Sardarian played the two seasons for New Hampshire (2022-24). In 61 NCAA games for the Wildcats, he tallied nine goals and 12 assists.
