LAKE PLACID, New York – The Michigan Tech Nordic Ski Teams begin the New Year at the 2026 U.S. Cross-Country Ski National Championships at Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, New York. The Huskies will be competing in four races at the event.
- Sunday, Jan. 4 – 10K interval start classic
- Tuesday, Jan. 6 – skate sprint
- Thursday, Jan. 8 – 20K mass start skate, 10K U20 Men & Women
- Friday, Jan. 9 – classic sprint
The 10K classic on Sunday will count as the first CCSA NCAA qualifying race of the season. One of Tech's overarching team competition goals for the US Nationals is to achieve a CCSA team win in the classic race day and have Huskies achieve counting qualifying races for the NCAA Championships.
The Huskies will also be competing for the USSS Collegiate Cup, an award the Women's Team won in 2020, which recognizes the top NCAA team at US Nationals. The US Nationals results are used for the selection of the US Junior & U23 World Championship Teams, and the Huskies will be competing for those spots for Team USA.
The event boasts the most participants in history, and all NCAA teams will be represented as all three regions are counting races at US Nationals towards NCAA Championship qualification.
Coach's Quote:
"We're grateful to be competing here with our full team of student-athletes, and they are ready for these Championships!
"There are three main things we know will contribute to our team having an awesome Championships. One, we're confident in our preparation. We had outstanding December pre-season races and great training leading up to these Championships. Two, this team shows their enthusiasm for competition! That's so important for Championship success as you have to really have exuberance for competing itself to free yourself up to go out there a truly test yourself, and to be free to achieve your greatest performances. Third, we have a team that loves to be a team! When you simply enjoy spending time with each other and supporting each other you relax, and focus on the greater picture, which is this incredible life experience we all get to have as competitive skiers!"
