HOUGHTON, Mich. – The No. 19-ranked Michigan Tech hockey team fell 3-2 Saturday to Northern Michigan at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Huskies generated 44 shots on goal but managed a goal in the first period and one with 66 seconds left.

"We were flat in the first two periods. We had plenty of chances to score but didn't capitalize," Tech coach
Bill Muckalt said. "It wasn't going our way, but it's a lesson about what can happen when you don't play a full 60 minutes. Give Northern credit. They got some really good goaltending and played hard all night long."
The Huskies thought they scored a power-play goal at 13:19 into the game, but the officials reviewed it and waved it off for goaltender interference.
Tech did get on the board when
Elias Jansson scored his sixth of the season and 18th of his career at 13:56 of the first period.
Max Koskipirtti had the setup feed into the crease, while
Stiven Sardarian also assisted on the play.
NMU tied it up when Tobias Pitka tipped in a pass from Peter Cisar 13:37 into the second period on the power play. Mathew Ward also assisted.
The Wildcats scored the go-ahead goal with 9:02 left in the third period, capitalizing on a turnover. Matthew Argentina scored from Peter Cisar.
Tech pulled added the extra attacker, and Matthew Argentina made it a 3-1 game with 1:57 left.
Teydon Trembecky cut the margin back to one with an extra attacker goal from
Elias Jansson and
Carson Birnie. It was Trembecky's third goal of the weekend and his team-leading 11th of the season.
The Huskies had an offensive zone faceoff with 27 seconds left. Both teams burned their timeouts and the Wildcats.
Max Koskipirtti won three straight faceoffs, but Tech didn't generate a shot on the net.
It was Tech's most shots on goal this season, and Oliver Auyeung-Ashton made 42 saves for the Wildcats.
Owen Bartoszkiewicz stopped 34 shots for the Huskies.
Tech was 1-for-6 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Saturday's game was a sellout with 4,071 fans in attendance.
