PREVIEW: Volleyball season begins in Illinois

WEEKEND MATCHES
• Michigan Tech begins the 2025 season this weekend with three matches in Lebanon, Illinois at the McKendree Invitational.
• The Huskies begin the campaign against Missouri-St. Louis on Friday at 10 a.m. Eastern.
• The day wraps up at 5:30 p.m. against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
• Tech plays tournament host McKendree on Saturday at 3 p.m. to close out the weekend.
• Minnesota Duluth and Purdue Northwest are also at the tournament but the Huskies won't match up with the Bulldogs or Pride.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
• Missouri-St. Louis is coming off a 19-9 season and its fifth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. UMSL was picked to finish fourth in the GLVC according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll. 15th year head coach Ryan Young returns five All-GLVC performers, including Alayna Santel who was the AVCA Midwest Region and GLVC Freshman of the Year. UMSL is ranked just outside of the AVCA top 25.
• Southwestern Oklahoma State went 21-8 overall and won its first-ever GAC Championship with a 15-1 mark. The Bulldogs were picked fourth in the GAC Preseason Coaches' Poll and earned a pair of first-place votes. They had the conference player of the year and defensive player of the year who have since graduated. Coach Josh Collin is in his 13th year.
• McKendree was 11-16 overall last season with a 6-7 GLVC record. The Bearcats were picked eighth in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Head coach Miranda Rodriguez returns for her second season and has six returners along with nine freshmen and three transfers.

COACH PINDRAL
• Cindy Pindral was named the eighth Head Coach of the Michigan Tech volleyball program on December 2, 2024.
• Pindral returned to the Huskies after being an Assistant Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Volunteer Coach with the Huskies for seven seasons from 2016 to 2022.
• During her seven years with the Huskies, the team held a 139-62 overall record. Tech went to four straight NCAA Tournaments from 2017-21 and won a pair of regular-season GLIAC championships in the spring of 2021 and then repeated in the fall of 2021.
• As a freshman student-athlete at the University of Florida, Pindral was the starting setter for the Gators who went to the NCAA Sweet 16, won an SEC Championship, and were ranked as high as No. 10.
• She finished her collegiate career as a three-time starter at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She was an Academic All-American and All-RMAC selection.

LAST SEASON
• Tech finished the 2024 season with a 17-12 overall record.
• The Huskies advanced to the GLIAC semifinal for the eighth consecutive time last season, with a 10-7 GLIAC record and a fifth-place finish in the conference.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
• The Huskies will play 27 matches in the fall with 16 GLIAC contests and nine games at the SDC Gym. Six of their opponents went to the NCAA Tournament last season, and five were ranked in the final 2024 AVCA Top 25.
• Tech travels to Minnesota for the UP North Tournament. The Black and Gold play at Minnesota Duluth on Sept. 11. The weekend continues down in St. Cloud against Barry and No. 3 SCSU on Sept. 12. The final match is back in Duluth on Sept. 13 versus Adelphi.
