Tomashek receives GLIAC Commissioner’s Award

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech men's basketball junior guard Marcus Tomashek has been named a recipient of the 2024-25 GLIAC Commissioner's Award, the GLIAC announced on Tuesday. The awards are presented after the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in competition.

Tomashek is the first GLIAC Commissioner's award recipient for the men's basketball squad since Owen White in 2021-22.

The standout guard finished the 2024-25 campaign ranked top-10 nationally in field goal attempts (539), free throw attempts (255), free throws (188) and points (720)--while his 23.2 points per game ranked 11th in the country. He earned accolades of NABC All-America, D2CCA First Team All-America, NABC All-District, D2CCA All-Region First Team, GLIAC Player of the Year, First Team All-GLIAC, and a Bevo Francis Top-25 Watch List. He was a focal point for the Huskies, who won the GLIAC regular season outright championship and an NCAA Tournament Berth as the Black & Gold finished the season 24-8 overall.

The pride of Green Bay, Wisconsin, scored 30 or more points in nine games with two 40-point games, including a career-high 45-point outing. He led the GLIAC with five GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, including a one-time NABC Player of the Week distinction.

Academically, Tomashek was named to the CSC Academic All-America First Team and the CSC Academic All-District team, holding a 3.70 cumulative GPA pursuing a degree in forestry.
