PREVIEW: Tech travels back to Indiana for Crossover

WEEKEND MATCHES
• Michigan Tech travels to Hammond, Indiana for the 17th annual Midwest Regional Volleyball Crossover Tournament.
• The Huskies are the No. 5 seed from the GLIAC and open against GLVC's No. 4 seed Indianapolis at 12:30 p.m. Eastern on Friday.
• Tech plays again at 5:30 p.m. versus Ohio Dominican, the No. 2 seed from the GMAC.
• Saturday's match up will depend on Friday's results.
• The Huskies are 7-8 overall and 4-3 in the GLIAC.
 
CROSSOVER
• The 17th annual Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover, the nation's largest collegiate volleyball tournament, will be held at the Hammond Sportsplex & Community Center in Hammond, Indiana, on Oct. 17-18, 2025.
• The 2025 Midwest Volleyball Crossover features 38 schools from the GLIAC, GLVC, and GMAC. These three Division II conferences span 8 states and make up a good portion of the Midwest.
• The G-MAC will field a total of 13 teams, the GLVC will have 14 institutions competing, and the GLIAC will travel 11 different programs.
• Each team will be guaranteed three matches and every session will utilize as many as eight courts at once.

WATCH THE CROSSOVER
• Fans can watch the Crossover through BALLER tv.
• Tournament passes will cost $40, with each team playing 3 games.

SCOUTING UINDY
• Indianapolis is 14-5 overall and 5-1 in GLVC action. The Greyhounds have won six straight and are 4-2 in neutral site matches.
• The team is 10th in the nation in hitting percentage (.270), 11th in total kills (944), and 15th in total assists (863).
• UIndy was selected sixth in the GLVC Preseason Poll.
• Head coach Haley Case is in her first season and has 11 returners from last season.
 
SCOUTING ODU
• Ohio Dominican is 13-4 overall and 7-1 in the GMAC. The Panthers have won six straight and are 4-1 in neutral site contests.
• The Panthers are in the nation's top 25 in assists per set (12.77) and kills per set (13.74).
• ODU was selected second in the GMAC South Division in the Preseason Poll and returns 15 players from last season.
• Coach Amy Bambenek is in her sixth season leading ODU.

LAST WEEKEND
• The Huskies fell in a pair of games over the weekend, as Northern Michigan won 3-2 on Thursday at the SDC Gym and Purdue Northwest won 3-1 in Indiana on Sunday.
• Madelyn Torola averaged 4.0 kills per set on the weekend, while Tess Hayes averaged 10.00 assists per set, and Julia Fledderjohn had 4.78 digs per set.

GLIAC STATISTICAL RANKING
• Brooke Dzwik is third in aces per set (0.42).
• Jacqueline Yancy is fifth in kills per set (3.31).
• Julia Fledderjohn is sixth in digs per set (4.00).
• Tess Hayes is eighth in assists per set (8.36).
• Paige Wagner is eighth in blocks per set (0.91).
• Madelynn Kreider is ninth in assists per set (7.32).

COACH PINDRAL
• Cindy Pindral was named the eighth Head Coach of the Michigan Tech volleyball program on December 2, 2024.
• Pindral returned to the Huskies after being an Assistant Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Volunteer Coach with the Huskies for seven seasons from 2016 to 2022.
• During her seven years with the Huskies, the team held a 139-62 overall record. Tech went to four straight NCAA Tournaments from 2017-21 and won a pair of regular-season GLIAC championships in the spring of 2021 and then repeated in the fall of 2021.
• As a freshman student-athlete at the University of Florida, Pindral was the starting setter for the Gators who went to the NCAA Sweet 16, won an SEC Championship, and were ranked as high as No. 10.
• She finished her collegiate career as a three-time starter at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She was an Academic All-American and All-RMAC selection.
 
UP NORTH ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
• Tricia Kennedy was named to the Up North All-Tournament Team after she averaged 1.57 kills per set and 1.14 blocks per set in the four matches while hitting .333.
• In the 3-0 sweep of Adelphi on Saturday, Kennedy tallied 11 kills and six blocks (three solo blocks and three block assists) while hitting .550. In the tournament opener at Minnesota Duluth, the junior middle blocker had seven kills and seven blocks. She added three kills on four attempts against No. 17 Barry.

McKENDREE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
• Brooke Dzwik led the Huskies with 32 kills in the three sets, averaging 3.2 per set. Also led the Black and Gold with seven aces, and 54 receptions while ranking second with 28 digs, averaging 2.8 per set.
• Rachel Zurek led the Huskies with 11 blocks on the weekend and put down 27 kills, averaging 3 per set. She had over eight kills in all three matches.

• Tech finished the 2024 season with a 17-12 overall record.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
• The Huskies get back to GLIAC action against Wayne State and Grand Valley State the next weekend at the SDC Gym. Friday's match against the Warriors is at 5 p.m. and Saturday is a 2 p.m. first serve against the Lakers.
• Tech then embarks on a three-match road trip to Northern Michigan (Oct. 28), Parkside (oct. 31), and Roosevelt (Nov. 1).
• The regular season wraps up with back-to-back weekends at home against Davenport, Ferris State, Saginaw Valley State, and Lake Superior State.
