About the Warriors

The Warriors were the lone team in the conference playing last weekend, falling to Quincy 31-14 at Tom Adams Field. Wayne State's closest game came in week two, falling at Findlay (7-3) on Sep. 13.

The Warriors were predicted to finish sixth in the GLIAC preseason coaches' poll as Tryone Wheatley returns for his third season at the helm.Â
About the HuskiesÂ
Michigan Tech returns to action following a bye week. The Black & Gold will look to respond after dropping a 21-14 decision to Upper Iowa two Saturdays ago on Homecoming, which left them with a 3-1 overall record.Â
Despite the loss last time out, the Huskies have proven to be a tough matchup through four games with a top-15 total defense in the country, ranking 13th, allowing just 272 yards from the opposition for second in the league. That's backed by the 28th ranked scoring defense allowing 17 points per game, also second in the GLIAC.Â
Four Huskies have over 20 total tackles this season, led by Chase Koch (31 total tackles), Porter Zeeman (23), Dante Basanese (21) and Dakota Blackwell (21), who are threats for opposing offenses. Basanese has accounted for a team-leading two interceptions to go with a forced fumble and recovery.Â
Offensively, quarterback Alex Bueno has tossed for a league-leading 811 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 221 yards and three touchdowns on 46 carries. Running back Jake Rueff is producing 65.5 rushing yards per game on 61 carries for 262 total rushing yards and a touchdown.
Veteran Ethan Champney (249 receiving yards) and Nic Nora (236 receiving yards) are Bueno's top receivers, with Nora having a team-leading three receiving touchdowns and five additional Huskies accounting for one receiving score. Champney paces the GLIAC in receiving yards (249) and receiving yards per game (62.3) as Nora is atop the league with five receptions per game.
One Last Thing
This will be the fourth meeting between the Warriors and Huskies for Wayne State's Homecoming. WSU holds a 2-1 record against the Black & Gold, taking wins in 2011 (27-10) and 2023 (23-21), with MTU's win coming in 2021 (30-27).
