Huskies split weekend after Saturday loss at Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. – Michigan Tech volleyball fell 3-2 at Parkside on Saturday. The Huskies won the second and fourth sets but the Rangers closed out the victory 15-12 in the fifth.

There were nine ties in the opening set before the home team went on a 5-0 run to get it to set point. The Huskies fought through three setpoints before Parkside closed it out with a kill and 25-22 win.

The Huskies never trailed in the second and led by as many as seven. Paige Wagner had five kills in the second and Meg Raabe hit the winning kill. Tech hit .250 and forced UWP into seven attacking errors in a 25-18 victory.

Both offenses came alive with 17 kills in the third with Parkside hitting .484 and Tech .378. Sam Fisch scored three of the final four points for the Rangers as they took a 25-22 win and 2-1 lead. Rachel Zurek put down six kills for the Huskies.

Tech tied it up in the fourth 25-23. There were 11 ties and a pair of lead changes. Back-to-back kills by Paige Wagner and Meg Raabe made it 21-19. Wagner and Kaycee Meiners added points before Rachel Zurek finished the set with a kill to make it setpoint and another to send it to a fifth.

The fifth was more of the same with nine ties and six lead changes. Neither team took more than a two-point lead until the final point. The home team scored four straight points to take a 13-11 lead and then closed out the win with a pair of errors by the Huskies.

Meg Raabe led the Huskies with 16 kills in the match while Rachel Zurek added 15. Kaycee Meiners added nine kills and four blocks. Tess Hayes set the offense with 49 assists and 16 digs. Brynn Erickson also had 16 digs and Amelia Albers added 10 digs.

Tech is 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC and returns to the SDC Gym next weekend to host Ferris State on Friday and Davenport on Saturday to begin a four-match home stretch.
