LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Michigan Tech volleyball team received the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT for 2023-24, earning the honor for the 12th straight season. Tech held a 3.55 team grade-point average.
Seven Huskies were named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team while four others were on the GLIAC All-Academic Team.
Lindy Oujiri held a 4.0 for her career.
Kate Walch,
Meg Raabe,
Riley Stichter, and
Kaycee Meiners had a 4.0 for the academic year, while
Zoe Rhines,
Amelia Albers, and
Tricia Kennedy each had a 4.0 semester.
The Huskies advanced to the GLIAC semifinal for the eighth consecutive time last season, with a 10-8 GLIAC record and a fourth-place finish in the conference. Tech finished the 2023 season with a 15-16 overall record, winning four of its final six.
Tess Hayes was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year and to the All-GLIAC Second Team.
Kaycee Meiners and
Lindy Oujiri were honored on the All-GLIAC First Team.
Meg Raabe joined Hayes on the All-GLIAC Second Team, and
Rachel Zurek was an Honorable Mention selection.
More than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs maintained a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the award for their classroom excellence during the recently completed academic year.
"We are pleased that the record-setting success of the 2023-24 season on the court has extended to the classroom, too, as evidenced by more programs earning the AVCA Team Academic Award than ever before," says AVCA CEO Dr. Jaime Gordon. "This is a great example of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their full potential as both students and athletes."
