HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech Super Smash Bros. team concluded its Fall 2024 campaign with a hard-fought first-round exit in the Playfly Varsity Premiere Playoffs against St. John's University. While the early playoff loss stings, the season was an undeniable triumph, showcasing growth, resilience, and teamwork.
Finishing the regular season with an impressive 4-1 record, the Huskies demonstrated both individual excellence and collective improvement. Early challenges honed their skills, as each matchup—win or loss—served as a stepping stone toward becoming a more cohesive unit.
A major highlight of the season came in Week 3 with the debut of freshman Malachi "ZombieBomb" Enter, who brought energy and creativity to the roster while playing as Hero. Even in their lone regular-season defeat, the Huskies showed their mettle, battling fiercely to take rounds and win matches. Their refusal to back down exemplified a competitive spirit that drove them to the postseason stage.
That drive and determination earned the Huskies a coveted spot in the playoffs, where they secured a top-8 finish on the national stage—a remarkable achievement for the program. While their postseason journey was cut short, their performance highlighted exceptional game knowledge, individual talent, and team synergy.
With a strong foundation in place and lessons learned from the season, the Huskies are poised to make an even greater impact next year. Expect this team to come back hungrier, sharper, and more determined than ever in 2025.
