Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Lauren Emmert notched 10 kills and Jacqueline Aird had 11 digs to help the Michigan Tech volleyball team roll past Lake Erie, 3-0, in a GLIAC match today (Sept. 26) at the SDC Gym.
The win stops a two-match slide for the Huskies (11-2 overall; 3-1 GLIAC), who opened the year with a program-best 10-0 record.
"We had a fast start tonight and it was a bit of a monkey off our backs," said head coach Matt Jennings. "Volleyball is a very fast game and one in which momentum can change on a dime. We played determined to keep the ball of the floor and it was nice to see us play crisp volleyball."
Emmert hit .529 while teammates Stephanie Dietrich (.400), Rachel Pohlod (.333), Mariah Sherman (.318) and Aubrey Ficek (.304) all hit over .300 in the win.
Pohlod added 33 assists - one more than Lake Erie as a team - and Elle Heinonen and Sarah Rasmussen recorded eight and five digs, respectively.
Michigan Tech cruised to a 25-13 opening-set win after compiling an eight-point run early. Emmert hit 1.000 in the frame with seven kills and Sherman knocked the ball into a gap in the Lake Erie defense to close out the set.
The Huskies and Lake Erie battled to a 16-all tie midway through the second set, but two key kills by Dietrich late in period helped the Black and Gold earn a 25-23 victory.
Tech's resilient play in the final set helped it close out the match with a 25-16 win. Heinonen had six digs in the set, while Ficek, Pohlod and Sherman all had three kills.
The Huskies have a two-day break before traveling to Marquette Tuesday (Sept. 29) to play Northern Michigan. The match, which will be broadcast live on TV6 and FOX UP, is set to begin at 7 p.m.
