Soccer Scores 2-0 Win at Notre Dame

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Michigan Tech soccer team dominated both offensively and defensively in a 2-0 win at Notre Dame in women's GLIAC soccer action Sunday (Sept. 16). The shutout was the third for the Huskies this season who improve to 4-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in league play.

"Our girls played an incredible game of soccer today," said head coach Michelle Jacob. "They went out and executed our plan right from the get go. We had a great balance of possession and attack which allowed us to create 32 shots during the game."

The Huskies finished with a 32-7 advantage in shots, including a 13-2 mark in shots on goal.

Janelle Riedl netted the first goal for the Huskies thanks to an assist from Katie Boardman in the 10th minute. Boardman netted a goal of her own 20 minutes later with a low shot from outside the penalty box. Lexi Herriweg assisted on the goal.

"Our center mids were a big factor in the game today," said Jacob. "They took control of the midfield and consistently played the ball into our forwards who were making great attacking runs.  We are very proud of the performance by the team today."

Jenna Phelps stopped both Falcon shots on goal to post her fourth win of the season.

The team will continue league play at Northern Michigan on Saturday (Sept. 22). Tech posted a 2-0 win over NMU in a non-conference match earlier this season.
