ALLENDALE, Mich. - A pair of Michigan Tech student-athletes are
in the top-four after day one of the decathlon at the GLIAC track
and field championships Wednesday (May 2). Nate Saliga is in second
place with 3,226 points, and teammate Patrick Spalding is in fourth
place with 3,126.
Saliga started the day by winning the 100 in a time of 11.4 for 774
points. He also won the last event of the day, the 400, in a time
of 49.15 for 854 points. His 854 points in the 400 was the highest
single event score by an competitor.
Spalding's two highest scores came in the 100 and 400 as well. He
ran 11.82 in the 100 for 687 points and 52.93 in the 400 for 685
points.
Jeremy Braman from Lake Superior State leads after day one with
3,296 points. 184 points separate first place from sixth place.
Day two of the decathlon starts at 9 a.m. Thursday (May 3).
