Storm too Strong for Tech Volleyball

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Lake Erie used home court advantage to post a 3-2 win over the Michigan Tech volleyball team Friday (Sept. 16). The Huskies are 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Storm improves to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the league.

"We faced a team and a crowd that was charged up to play us and our youth and inexperience felt that," said head coach Orlando Gonzalez. "I give Lake Erie and their great crowd support credit, but our lack of experience to win matches caught up to us. We have to regroup, learn from our mistakes and comeback with a better effort tomorrow."

Tech took the early lead in the match winning the first set 25-11, but Lake Erie answered with a 25-19 victory in the second.

Tech nearly won the third set but a service error on set-point for the Huskies followed by a ball handling error and an attack error by Tech gave Lake Erie the win 28-26.

The Tech attack dominated the fourth set. The Huskies hit .304 and limited the Storm attack to .000 to win the set 25-17 and force a decisive fifth set.

The Storm started the fifth set with a 4-0 lead and the Huskies could never come within four points in the set falling 15-11.

Tech finished with a .259 to .169 advantage in hitting percentage in the match, but Lake Erie finished with a 17-8 advantage in service aces.

Molly Richardson led LEC with a match-high 16 kills. Jamie Hoppe added 11 kills and Mary Walter added 10 for the Storm.

Michigan Tech's Jordanna Kero finished with a double-double thanks to 13 kills and 12 digs. Jena Karkos added 13 kills.

Skylar Paffenroth finished with a team-high 20 assists and Ciara Sebelius chipped in 17.
