HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Tech hockey team could not pull off the upset as it fell to No. 1 North Dakota 6-1 Friday (March 4). Matt Frattin paced North Dakota with one goal and three assists.

"North Dakota is an impressive team," said head coach Jamie Russell. "They are very deep and there is a reason they are No. 1."

Frattin factored into the first goal of the game by North Dakota at 3:26 of the first period. Evan Trupp scored his 15th goal of the season off a rebound created by a Frattin shot.

Daniel Holmberg tied the score for the Huskies just over four minutes later with his fifth goal of the season. Dennis Rix found Holmberg on the back post for the easy goal. Evan Witt also recorded an assist on the play.

North Dakota would reclaim the lead with three goals in the second period. Frattin made a great individual play around a Tech defender before beating Tech goalie Kevin Genoe for his team-leading 28th goal of the season at 13:58.

Ben Blood and Brent Davidson each found the net for UND at 15:38 and 17:16.

Jason Gregoire recorded the lone power-play goal of the game for UND to open the scoring in the third period. He scored off his own rebound at 2:47. North Dakota finished 1-4 on the power play.

Brad Malone concluded the scoring for UND with a break-away goal at 18:08.

Kevin Genoe made 39 saves in the Tech loss, and Aaron Dell finished with 18 in the win.

The two teams will close out the regular season Saturday (March 4).
