DENVER - Michigan Tech scored two short-handed goals to defeat
No. 4 Denver 3-2 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action
Friday (Feb. 18).
"Our guys did a terrific job with the little things, blocking shots
and winning face-offs," said head coach Jamie
Russell. "We did a good job staying in our systems. Our young
kids showed terrific composure to upset the No. 4 team in the
nation."
The Huskies took an early lead thanks to a short-handed goal by Patrick
McCadden at 5:23 of the first period. A Pioneer defender dove
for a puck headed out of the zone which created a break away for
McCadden. The goal was his third of the season and his second in
his last three games.
DU evened things up with an even-strength goal by Matt Donovan at
15:45. Donovan scored his seventh goal of the season with a slap
shot from the slot just seconds after a power play expired for the
Pioneers.
Tech's offense would continue to produce with a pair of goals in
the second period.

Royer who found Bryce
Reddick in front of net. Reddick fired a slap shot by Sam
Brittain at 5:11. The goal was his first of the season and the
third of his career.
The Huskies scored its second short-handed goal of the game a
little over three minutes later. Brad Stebner dug a puck out of the
corner in Tech's defensive zone to McCadden who started the break
away for Ryan
Furne. Furne beat Brittain with a high back handed shot for his
ninth goal of the season. Stebner's assist was his first point of
the season.
Denver scored the only goal of the third period off the stick of
Drew Shore. Shore fired a hard shot top shelf by Tech goalie Kevin
Genoe at 2:18.
DU played much of the final 1:30 of the game with an empty net but
neither team scored.
Denver finished with a 25-21 advantage in shots and both teams
finished 0-4 on the power play.
Genoe finished with 23 saves in the win and Brittain made 18 in the
loss.
The two teams will close out the season series Saturday (Feb.
18).
