GRAND FORKS, N.D. - No. 7 North Dakota scored three goals in the
third period to defeat Michigan Tech 5-1 in WCHA action Friday
(March 5). Senior Darcy Zajac paced UND with a pair of goals and
one assist.
Michigan Tech scored first in the contest after North Dakota made a
poor pass in front of its own goal. Senior Malcolm Gwilliam
intercepted a pass near the crease and then beat sophomore Brad
Eidsness for his 13th goal of the season. He was unassisted on the
goal at 17:02 of the first period.
Freshman Danny Kristo, Zajac and sophomore Ben Blood each scored to
give North Dakota a 3-1 lead at the end of the second.
UND would score two more goals in the third period. Zajac beat
freshman Kevin
Genoe with a wrist shot at 7:34. Sophomore Jason Gregoire
scored the final goal for UND at 18:59.
Eidsness (18-8-4) finished with 13 saves in the win and Genoe
(4-18-1) made 43 saves in the loss.
Both teams will close out the regular season in North Dakota
Saturday (March 6).
