HOUGHTON, Mich. - Jaden Schwartz recorded four assists to pace
Colorado College to a 7-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win
over Michigan Tech Friday (Dec. 3) at the John MacInnes Student Ice
Arena. The Tigers improved to 7-7-1, 4-5-0 and Tech slid to 3-7-2,
1-7-1.
Kevin
Genoe allowed just one goal in the first period for the Huskies
despite being peppered with 21 shots. Andrew Hamburg scored the
lone goal for the Tigers at 14:07 on a rebound created by a shot by
Nick Dineen.
Rylan Schwartz extended the CC lead to 2-0 with his fourth goal of
the season eight seconds into the second period.
Jacob
Johnstone started the come back for Tech with a short-handed
goal at 4:15. He battled by a Tiger defender before firing a wrist
shot past CC goalie Joe Howe at 4:15. Genoe recorded an assist on
the play after his kick save started the play.
Milos
Gordic tied the game at 2-2 with his team-leading seventh goal
of the season just 38 seconds later. Daniel
Holmberg sent a cross ice pass to Gordic who beat Howe with a
wrist shot.
Schwartz netted his second goal of the period with nine seconds
remaining in the second to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead heading into
the third period.
Andrew Hamburg sent a pass to Nick Dineen who returned the pass to
Hamburg for his fourth goal of the season at 5:35 of the third.
Johnstone and Gordic each picked up his second point of the night
with an assist on a goal by Ryan
Furne at 8:09 of the third period. Furne scored with a wrist
shot from the slot thanks to a Gordic pass from below the face-off
circle. That made the score 4-3, but Colorado College put the game
away with three more goals in the third period including two more
on the power play.
Genoe finished with 40 saves for Tech and Howe recorded 31 for the
visitors.
The two teams will close out the season series Saturday (Dec. 4) at
the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
