DETROIT - Wayne State defeated Michigan Tech 3-0
tonight in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
volleyball. The Warriors (14-11, 12-6 GLIAC) hit .263 for the match
and posted an 8-1 advantage in service aces over the Huskies (5-19,
3-14 GLIAC).
"We started late and didn't execute well down the
stretch," said head coach Orlando
Gonzalez. "Our blocking and defense weren't bad, but we didn't
balance our offensive enough."
WSU jumped out to a quick lead in set one en route to
a 25-19 victory. In the second, Tech was within 15-14 before the
Warriors won 10 of the final 11 points for a 25-15 decision. The
Huskies held a 21-20 lead in set three before the hosts rallied for
a 25-23 margin.
Kristine
Sexton finished with a team-high 10 kills for the Huskies. Alicia
Schneider added seven kills and a .294 hitting percentage.
Four Tech players had seven digs or more as the Black
and Gold posted a 48-to-42 advantage in digs.
Wayne State was led by Katarzyna Sak's 16 kills and
.609 hitting percentage.
Tech's final team hitting percentage was .101.
Michigan Tech will play another road match tomorrow,
traveling to Findlay for a 4 p.m. start.
