AURORA, Ill. - The Michigan Tech volleyball team lost a 3-1
decision to Bellarmine today in both teams' first match in the
GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament at the Great Lakes Center. The
Huskies (3-13) opened the match well, but the Knights (9-8) took
the final three sets to win.
Tech used a 10-5 run to end the opening set with a 25-20 win.
Senior
Alicia
Schneider notched a kill to break a 15-all tie, then finished
off the set with another kill.
Bellarmine took the early lead in set two and never
relinquished it in winning 25-17.
The Huskies battled back from a nine-point deficit in set
three to pull within four at 16-12. They could not get any closer
the rest of the way, and BU gained a 25-19 win.
Tech jumped out to a 3-0 lead in set four with a kill and two
Alex
Schwalbe service aces. The score remained tight the rest of the
way. At 21-19, BU put together three straight points for a 24-19
lead. It eventually won, 25-21.
Schneider and fellow senior Kasey
Woodcock tied for team high honors in kills with 10. Woodcock
posted a .400 hitting percentage.
Madeline
Haben tallied 28 assists while Tessa
Mauer recorded 15 digs.
"Bellarmine was the better team today," said head coach Orlando
Gonzalez. "We'll need to put this one behind us and get ready
for tomorrow."
Tech will play two more matches in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover
tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match vs. Maryville and a 4 p.m. match vs.
Kentucky Wesleyan.
