ASHLAND, Ohio - The Huskies opened up their Ohio road trip by
dropping a 3-0 decision in Ashland this
Friday (October 2). Tech fought hard against the host
Eagles out of the gates, as they had to overcome four-point
deficits twice in the opening set. Unfortunately, two Tech errors
in the closing minutes of the game gave Ashland the 26-24 decision
in game one.
In the second set, the Black and Gold kept it close in the early
going until the hosts responded with a 12-7 run to give the Eagles
a 2-0 lead in the match.
At the start of the third set, the Eagles came out swinging, and
jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. The Huskies fought to within five,
but attack errors on the part of the Huskies and service aces on
the part of the Eagles would spell doom for Tech.
The Huskies were paced by sophomore Kristine Sexton, who tallied
nine kills and three block assists on the evening. Senior Veronica
Armstrong chipped in eight kills to go along with her 11 digs.
Senior Kaari Nevanen led all
players with 16 digs in the match.
Regrettably, Tech's evening was littered with errors - 27 in all.
Coupled with an attack percentage of .103, that was enough to ruin
Tech's first evening in Ohio.
The Eagles were paced by the dominating play of freshman Brittany
Snider. Her 23 kills were not only a match high, but only nine off
of Tech's kill total of 32. Snider also tallied 13 digs in the
match - good enough for her third straight double-double.
Ashland came out on top in nearly every statistical category, save
digs, in which Tech held a 62-55 advantage.
Tech fell to 6-10 overall and 4-4 in the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Eagles improved to
8-8 and 4-4 in the GLIAC.
The Huskies will look to get back on track as they travel to Tiffin
to face the Dragons tomorrow (Saturday, October 3rd). The match is slated
to begin at 2 p.m.
