HOUGHTON, Mich. - No. 17 North Dakota scored a 5-0 win Saturday
(Jan. 17) for its first win over the Michigan Tech hockey team this
season. Tech defeated and tied North Dakota in the previous two
meetings. The Fighting Sioux (14-10-2, 9-5-2) finished 1-for-7 on
the power play and the Huskies (5-18-3, 1-14-3) were 0-for-5. UND
also finished with a 33-14 advantage in shots.
"I didn't think we got enough pucks to the net. We didn't play
enough in North Dakota's end. A big reason for that was North
Dakota," said head coach Jamie Russell. "I thought they played a
very good hockey game. They are a very strong team
defensively."
Sophomore Matt Frattin opened the scoring for the Sioux with an
even strength goal at 7:32 of the opening period.
For the second straight night sophomore Jake Marto scored the
second goal of the game. Senior Brad Miller and sophomore Evan
Trupp assisted on the power play goal at 19:17 of the second
period.
The Sioux then added three goals in the third. Sophomore Brent
Davidson scored his second goal of the season at 7:24 of the third
period. Frattin and Marto each scored their second goals of the
game at 14:20 and 14:50 to complete the scoring for UND.
Freshman Brad Eidsness (13-7-1) turned aside all 14 Tech shots to
record his first career shutout.
Senior Rob Nolan (2-13-2) made 28 saves on 33 shots for
the Huskies.
Tech will face Alaska Anchorage in a pair of WCHA games Jan.
23-24.
