ALLENDALE, Mich. - Michigan Tech rallied from a 2-0 deficit but
could not pull off the upset as it fell to No. 8 Grand Valley
State, 3-2, Friday (Sept. 19). The Lakers (11-2, 4-0 GLIAC) won
sets one and two (25-21, 25-21) but the Huskies (7-5, 2-2 GLIAC)
came back to win sets three and four (25-20, 25-21) to force a
decisive fifth set. GVSU jumped out to a 8-1 lead and went on to
win the fifth set 15-9 to take the match.
"I was glad to see that we were able to rebound after Tuesday match
by taking a top-10 team to five sets," said head coach Krista
Mikesch. "We made some strides tonight and gave them a run for
their money. These are the kinds of teams we can compete with."
Both teams finished with 11 blocks in the match but the Huskies
held a 10-6 advantage in service aces.
Junior Veronica Armstrong recorded a double-double for the Huskies
with 14 kills on a season-high 41 attempts to go along with a
team-high 16 digs.
Senior Jen Jung also chipped in 14 kills and a team-high eight
block assists for Tech.
Senior Kelsey Skoog recorded 34 assists, second most by a Husky
this season.
The Huskies will wrap up the weekend tomorrow (Sept. 20) against
Ferris State at 4:00 p.m.
