Michigan Tech will continue GLIAC play this week with a trio of
matches. The Huskies will entertain UP rival Northern Michigan
Tuesday (Sept. 16) before hitting the road for a pair of matches.
Tech will face Grand Valley State Friday (Sept. 19) and Ferris
State Saturday (Sept. 20).
Jung Honored By GLIAC
Senior middle hitter Jen Jung was named the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the
Week after recording 14 kills in a 3-1 victory over previously
unbeaten Saginaw Valley State and eight kills versus Lake Superior
State. Jung averaged 3.5 kills/game and had a .382 hitting
percentage to go along with nine blocks in the victories over the
Cardinals and Lakers.
Get Up And Block
Michigan Tech leads the GLIAC in blocks this season with 3.03 per
set. The Huskies strong play at the net has also paid dividends on
their opponents attack. Opponents are hitting .114 against the
Huskies this season, second lowest in the league.
The Huskies have done a good job avoiding the block this
season. Tech has only had 55 of its attacks blocked on 1,237
attacks this season. Lake Superior State failed to record a block
in its match against Tech.
Kills, Kills, Kills
The Black and Gold have taken care of play on their side of the net
averaging 12.78 kills per set, third best in the GLIAC.
Wiza Records Season High
Sophomore Kaitlin Wiza recorded a season-high 26 digs in Tech's 3-1
win over Saginaw Valley State. The Cedarburg, Wis., native has
recorded 144 digs this season at the libero position.
Serving Up Aces
Junior Veronica Armstrong is the Huskies biggest threat this season
on the serve. The Battle Creek, Mich., native leads the team with
18 service aces.
Looking Ahead
The Huskies will remain on the road next weekend (Sept. 26-27) for
a pair of matches against Findlay and Hillsdale.
