ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Michigan Tech out shot No. 16 St. Cloud
State, 37-33, but was unable to score as it fell 3-0 in the WCHA
road contest on Feb. 23.
"We played really well tonight. We just couldn't get a break," said
head coach Jamie Russell.
Michigan Tech held a 15-8 advantage in shots in the first period
but it was St. Cloud State that found the net first. Michigan Tech
junior goalie Rob Nolan made a save on a shot by sophomore
Andreas Nodl but was caught on the opposite post as junior John
Swanson put away the rebound. Freshman Garrett Roe also picked up
an assist on the power play goal at 19:49.
The Black and Gold had an opportunity to even the score after SCSU
was called for a five minute major and game misconduct for a check
from behind just two minutes into the second period. Tech was
unable to score before it was whistled 45 seconds later for a check
from behind and a game misconduct.
St. Could State capitalized again on a rebound after junior John
Swanson poked the puck past a diving Nolan for his fifth goal of
the season. Senior Matt Stephenson and senior Aaron Brocklehurst
each assisted on the even strength goal at 10:11 of the second
period.
Junior Michael-Lee Teslak replaced Nolan in the Michigan
Tech net at 12:31 of the period.
SCSU picked up its third goal of the evening at 15:15 of the final
period off a loose puck in front of the net. Junior Michael Olson
scored his third goal of the season on assists by senior Marty
Mjelleli and freshman Nick Oslund.
Sophomore Jase Weslosky (13-10-0) made 37 saves in the St. Cloud
shutout.
Nolan (6-9-1) gave up two goals and made 16 saves in 32 minutes of
work in the loss.
Teslak also gave up one goal and made 14 saves for Tech.
St. Cloud (16-13-3, 11-11-2) finished 1-5 on the power play and
Tech (11-16-5, 7-13-4) was 0-4.
