ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State scored three power play goals
to earn a 4-1 victory over Michigan Tech in front of a crowd of
6,057 at the National Hockey Center Feb. 22. St. Cloud State
(15-13-3, 10-11-2) finished the night 3-5 on the power play while
Michigan Tech (11-15-5, 7-12-4) finished 1-5.
"We had some great opportunities and we didn't make great shots.
They had great opportunities and they converted," said head coach
Jamie Russell.
Sophomore Ryan Peckskamp netted the first goal of his career at
5:42 of the first period. Junior Brent Borgen picked up his sixth
assist of the season after he won a battle for the puck behind the
net and found Peckskamp alone in front of the Tech net for the even
strength goal.
SCSU extended its lead to 2-0 on a power play goal by junior John
Swanson at 17:17 of the opening frame. Swanson fired a wrist shot
over the glove of Michigan Tech junior goaltender Michael-Lee
Teslak and off the cross bar for his fourth goal of the
season.
In the second period, Teslak made the initial save on a shot by
freshman Garrett Roe but Nodl put away the rebound for his 17th
goal of the season. Junior John Swanson was also credited with an
assist on the power play goal at 3:27 of the second period.
Senior Aaron Brocklehurst scored his second goal of the season for
St. Cloud at 1:58 of the final frame. Lasch picked up his second
assist of the night on the third power play goal by SCSU. Freshman
Tony Mosey also picked up an assist on the goal.
Junior Geoff Kinrade busted up the St. Cloud State
shutout thanks to his unassisted power play goal at 4:42. Kinrade
skated the length of the ice before scoring his third goal of the
season. All three of his goals this season have come on the power
play.
Teslak (5-7-4) allowed four goals and made 22 saves for Michigan
Tech.
Sophomore Jase Weslosky (12-10-0) gave up one goal and made 28
saves for St. Cloud State.
Tech finished the evening with a 29-26 advantage in shots.
The two teams will wrap up the series Saturday (Feb. 23). Face off
is set for 7:07 p.m.
