MARQUETTE, Mich. - Freshman Josh
Robinson made 20 saves to lead the Michigan Tech hockey team to
a 1-0 win to complete the series sweep of Northern Michigan on
Saturday (Dec. 20). The shutout was the first of Robinson's career
and the first by a Michigan Tech goalie against Northern
Michigan.
The last time Michigan Tech (4-14-2) swept Northern Michigan
(3-12-3) was Nov. 4-5, 1994.
"We have some momentum going now that we are unbeaten in our last
three games that we will be taking that with us down to the GLI,"
said head coach Jamie Russell. "Josh made some great saves last
night and then he came in here and got the shutout. He represented
the WCHA well not only tonight but during the whole weekend."
The Huskies capitalized on its third power play opportunity of the
evening for its lone goal. Sophomore Bennett
Royer flung a pass intended for senior Alex
Gagne that was deflected to freshman Peter
Rohn. He then put the puck past junior Brian Stewart at 8:17 of
the middle period for his first career goal. Sophomore Deron
Cousens also assisted on the goal.
Sophomore Jordan Baker, who entered the game on a three
game point streak, had two shots on the empty net in the final
minute of play but was unable to convert.
The Wildcats did push the Huskies to the limit while on the attack
with the extra skater. NMU sent numerous shots on net with 10
seconds remaining but were unable to tie the game.
Stewart (2-9-1) made 11 saves and gave up the lone Tech goal.
Michigan Tech will continue non-conference play at the 44th annual
