DULUTH, Minn. - Michigan Tech sophomore Jordan
Baker scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season but it
wasn't enough as the Minnesota Duluth hockey team came away with a
3-1 win at the DECC tonight (Dec. 12).
"I thought it was an even hockey game tonight," said head coach Jamie
Russell. "We played a lot better than last weekend. We were
much tighter defensively and created much better chances
offensively."
After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs took advantage of
their second power play of the night scoring at 4:14 of the second
period. Senior forward MacGregor Sharp recorded his ninth goal of
the season after he tapped in a pass from freshman forward Mike
Connolly. Sophomore forward Justin Fontaine also assisted on the
goal.
Fontaine also assisted on the Bulldog's second goal at 15:02 of the
middle frame. Freshman forward Jack Connolly finished off a
three-on-two for Duluth for his second career goal.
Baker brought the Huskies within one with his second power play
goal of the season at 16:29 of the second. He was assisted by a
pair of freshman, Brett Olson and Alex
MacLeod.
The Huskies comitted a pair penalties eight minutes into the third
period to give the Bulldogs a five-on-three advantage. Fontaine
picked up his third point of the game with his ninth goal of the
season at 8:38. He was assisted by Mike Connolly and senior
defenseman Josh Meyers.
Junior Alex Stalock (8-4-5) made 20 saves on 21 shots for the
Bulldogs, while senior Rob Nolan made 19 saves on 22 shots for the
Huskies.
Michigan Tech (2-14-1, 1-11-1) and Minnesota Duluth (8-4-5, 5-4-4)
will wrap-up the series tomorrow (Dec. 13) at 7:07 p.m.
