BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bemidji State scored a goal in each period to
defeat Michigan Tech 3-0 in a non-conference titlt tonight (Nov.
28). The Huskies (2-10-1) out shot the Beavers (4-7-0) 23-19 in the
game.
"Offensively we created good chances, but our guys are squeezing
their sticks to tight," said head coach Jamie
Russell.
Tech came out with lots of intensity but it was Bemidji State that
got on the board first at 6:18 of the opening period. Cody Bostock
made a long lead pass to Matt Francis who tucked the puck by Rob
Nolan. The goal was the second of the year for Francis.
The Huskies were unable to tie the game with a 5-on-3 power play
with less than three minutes remaining in the period.
"The 5-on-3 power play was the turning point," said Russell. "We
lost momentum, not only by not scoring, but by not generating
enough chances."
The Beavers opened the middle period with its second goal of the
game at 3:39. Matt Read collected a loose puck in the neutral zone
and beat Nolan high on the gloze side for his third goal of the
season.
The Huskies, who dressed just 11 forwards for the game, had their
bench shortened once again as Seth
Soley missed the third period with an injury.
Tech committed three penalties in the third period, including two
in the final three minutes.
BSU took advantage on the power play scoring its third goal of the
evening with 35 seconds remaining. Jamie MacQueen scored his first
goal of the season thanks to assists by Brandon Marino and Brad
Hunt.
The two teams will close out the series tomorrow (Nov. 29) at 7:05
p.m.
