GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Sophomore Drew Dobson scored the lone goal
for No. 18 Michigan Tech as it lost to No. 8 North Dakota, 4-1, in
front of a sellout crowd of 11,693 at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Tech fell to 9-11-2 overall and 5-8-1 in the WCHA while North
Dakota improved to 12-8-1 overall and 9-7-0 in the WCHA.
Senior forward Kyle Radke scored his first goal of the season at
7:21 of the first period. Radke collected a rebound and proceeded
to beat Michigan Tech goaltender Rob Nolan on the wraparound.
Junior Taylor Chorney and senior Robbie Bina each picked up assists
on the goal.
The Fighting Sioux extended their lead to 2-0 after sophomore
defenseman Chay Genoway found the back of the net with his slap
shot at 14:11 of the first period. He was assisted on the power
play goal by senior goaltender Jean-Philippe Lamoureux.
North Dakota picked up its third goal of the evening in the second
period as it capitalized on a Tech turnover in its own end.
Freshman forward Evan Trupp sent a centering pass to sophomore
forward Chris VandeVelde who sent a one-timer past Nolan at
15:04.
Michigan Tech sophomore Drew Dobson spoiled the Fighting Sioux
shutout with his goal at 2:49 of the final period. Dobson scored
his second goal of the season after he fired a wrist shot from the
top of the circle past UND senior Jean-Philippe Lamoureux. Junior
John Schwarz and freshman Jordan Baker tallied helpers on the
goal.
The Fighting Sioux, who finished the game 2-3 on the power play,
scored its fourth goal of the evening on the man advantage at 9:28
of the third period. Junior Taylor Chorney picked up his second
goal of the season as he scored off a pass from behind the net by
junior T.J. Oshie. Junior Ryan Duncan also picked up an assist on
the goal.
Tech finished 0-5 on the power play and was out shot, 21-18.
Nolan (5-7-0) made 17 saves and allowed four goals in just under 60
minutes of work in the Tech lost.
Lamoureux (12-8-1) gave up the lone Husky goal and 17 saves in the
win.
Michigan Tech will enjoy a weekend off before returning home to
host current WCHA points leader Colorado College on Jan. 25th and
26th.
