HILLSDALE, Mich. Nothing went right for the Michigan Tech
Huskies today. In a game of second-place teams in the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Hillsdale shut out Michigan
Tech, 37-0. The Chargers accumulated 514 yards of total offense and
intercepted four passes en route the win.
HC quarterback Mark Nicolet entered the game ranked second in the
nation in several stat categories and proved why. The senior
completed 34-of-47 passes for 376 yards and four touchdowns.
Hillsdale also converted 14-of-18 third downs in the contest.
Huskies' QB Steve Short was nine-of-21 for 110 yards, and was
picked off four times. Marvin Atkins rushed for a team-high 77
yards on 19 carries.
Will Clark led the Tech defensive effort with 12 tackles including
nine solos. Billy Koenig was named Superior Player of the Game for
averaging 36.8 yards on four points two of which were downed
inside the Hillsdale 20-yard line.
Michigan Tech (3-3 overall, 3-2 GLIAC) will try to regroup for
Homecoming next week. The Huskies host Ferris State Saturday (Oct.
6) for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Sherman Field.
Notes: Hillsdale led, 27-0, at the half ... Michigan Tech had not
been shut out since Oct. 20, 2001, when Ferris State did it by a
35-0 count.
