Tech's Rally Falls Short in Game Five
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Michigan Tech rallied from a 2-0 deficit to
force a fifth and deciding game at Ferris State today in GLIAC
volleyball at the Ewigleben Sports Arena. The comeback fell short,
however. The host Bulldogs prevailed 15-10 in the fifth game to
register the victory.
Ferris won the first two games by identical scores (30-26), but
Michigan Tech wasn't ready to cede the match as the Huskies rallied
to claim game three and four by 33-31 and 30-23 scores,
respectively.
In the deciding fifth game, Lindsay Tye's kill snapped a 6-6 tie as
the Bulldogs claimed the upper hand for the remainder of the match.
MTU would close to within a point at 8-7, but would get no
closer.
Jen Jung turned in a strong match with 13 kills and a .357 hitting
percentage. She also was credited for a block solo and eight block
assists. Sophomore Kelly Jorgensen proved to be the most accurate
with a .667 hitting percentage and nine kills.
Kelsey Skoog did it all with a team-high 24 digs to go with 17
assists and seven kills in the match.
Michigan Tech (2-7, 0-2 GLIAC) will conclude its brutal
season-opening travel schedule (matches in Florida, Minnesota, and
lower Michigan) with a trip to Northern Michigan Wednesday (Sept.
19). The Huskies first home match will come Saturday (Sept. 22) vs.
Mercyhurst.
