ALLENDALE, Mich. - Michigan Tech junior Kelsey Skoog finished
with a team-high 16 digs and 22 assists as the Huskies fell at No.
7 Grand Valley State 3-0 (30-28, 30-24, 30-17) in the quarterfinals
of the GLIAC Tournament.
With the win, the Lakers improved to 28-3 on the season and the
Huskies fell to 9-17.
In game one, Michigan Tech tied the score at 28. The Huskies
committed a critical service error and followed up with a block
error as Grand Valley escaped with the 30-28 win. The Lakers also
took games two and three for to complete the sweep.
"I felt we played well and executed our game plan n game one. They
took the momentum from game one and we suffered the same problems
we have had all season with mental toughness and consistency," said
head coach Krista Mikesch.
Danielle Alexander led the Lakers with 11 kills and Erica
Vandekopple added 10 kills.
Kali Jeter, the lone Huskies senior playing in her final match,
notched four kills, six digs, and two block assists. Ellen Sherry
compiled an impressive .583 hitting percentage with eight kills and
just one error on 12 attempts. Jen Jung totaled five block assists
to help Michigan Tech to six total team blocks compaared to two by
the Lakers.
Grand Valley State excelled with 50 kills and a .203 hitting
percentage as a team. It moves on to the GLIAC Tournament semifinal
which it will host Saturday and Sunday.
Michigan Tech's 2007 season is now complete.
