HILLSDALE, Mich. Despite a near-school record 18 total
blocks, the Michigan Tech volleyball team was defeated, 3-1,
tonight at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South
Division opponent Hillsdale. The host Chargers (17-4 overall)
remained undefeated in league play at 8-0.
Hillsdale took game one, 30-16, before the Huskies knotted up the
match with a 30-28 victory in game two. The team's battled in game
three before HC prevailed, 31-29, then closed out the match with a
30-25 score in game four.
Three Michigan Tech players recorded double digits in kills. Kelly
Jorgensen had 11, while Kali Jeter and Veronica Armstrong added 10
apiece. Jorgensen also had a team-high nine total blocks. Armstrong
chipped in 12 digs and four block assists. Jeng Jung had a .615
hitting percentage with nine kills and seven block assists.
"We were right in this match against a good team," said head coach
Krista Mikesch. "We are our own worst enemy right now with unforced
errors. We have to play more consistently and play with a will to
win."
Michigan Tech hit .215 for the game compared to .225 for the
Chargers. The Huskies 18 total blocks was just shy of the school
record of 19.5.
The loss snapped a four-game Michigan Tech winning streak and
dropped the Huskies to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Tech travels to Detroit play at Wayne State tomorrow. Match time is
slated for 7 p.m.
