NORTH DAKOTA SWEEPS MICHIGAN TECH WITH 6-0 WIN

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Aided by a five-gaol third period, 10th-ranked North Dakota skated past the Michigan Tech hockey team 6-0 in the final game of the regular season Saturday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Like Friday night, neither team scored in the first period of play.

The Fighting Sioux (23-14-1, 16-12-0 WCHA) scored the first goal of night at the 6:17 mark of the second stanza, as T.J. Oshie picked up his 20th tally of the season off an assist from Rastislav Spirko.

Tech outshot UND 9-6 in the middle frame.

A shorthanded marker off the stick off Drew Stafford at 3:21 of the third period, was the first of North Dakota's four goals in the first seven minutes of the final stanza. Brian Lee scored at 5:16, Andrew Kozek struck at 6:04 and Mike Prpich netted a goal at 6:32.

Netminder Michael-Lee Teslak was then pulled after stopping 18-of-23 shots for MTU.

Kozek added one more tally on the power play at 15:58.

Rob Nolan made five saves in 13:28 of action for Tech, compared to Jordan Parise, who turned aside all 24 shots he faced for the Fighting Sioux.

UND went 1-for-4 with a man advantage, while MTU was scoreless in six power-play chances.

Michigan Tech (7-23-6, 6-16-6 WCHA), which finished eighth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings with 18 points, will now travel to Wisconsin next weekend for a best-of-three series against the Badgers in the opening round of the WCHA playoffs. Opening faceoff is slated for 8:07 p.m. EST Friday (Mar. 10).
