MADISON, Wis. -- Joe Pavelski's power-play goal at 6:49 of the
second period proved to be the game-winning goal, as fourth-ranked
Wisconsin earned a 1-0 victory and series sweep of the Michigan
Tech hockey team in the first round of the Western Collegiate
Hockey Association Playoffs Saturday night at the Kohl Center. The
Huskies finished the 2005-06 campaign with a 7-25-6 overall record
and a 6-16-6 mark in WCHA competition.
Michael-Lee Teslak stopped 29-of-30 shots in net for MTU and
concluded his rookie year with a 7-14-4 record. Brian Elliott made
19 saves for the Badgers and improved to 22-4-3 on the season.
Wisconsin (25-9-3, 17-8-3 WCHA) compiled a 30-19 shot advantage in
the contest.
The Huskies went 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Badgers were
1-for-6 with a man advantage.
Notes: Six seniors -- Nick Anderson, Chris Conner, Taggart Desmet,
Pekka Saittakari, Brandon Schwartz and John Scott -- played their
final games in a Husky uniform tonight . . . Conner leaves Houghton
as Michigan Tech's all-time leader in shorthanded goals (15) and
shorthanded goals in a single season (8) . . . The winger ranks
19th among all MTU players in career goals (69) and he is 35th
all-time in overall point scoring (69-60--129).
