Huskies Top Ashland 3-1 at Home
HOUGHTON, Mich. -- A double-double from sophomore Veronica
Armstrong (Battle Creek, Mich./Central) and 19 team blocks, helped
lead the Michigan Tech volleyball team to a 3-1 (30-27, 30-27,
29-31, 30-19) victory over Ashland Friday night at the SDC Gym. The
win gave the Huskies a 10-10 overall record and a 6-5 mark in Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition. The Eagles
dropped to 13-7 overall and 7-4 in the GLIAC.
Armstrong led a strong offensive attack for Tech, as she registered
11 kills, 14 digs, four block assists and three block solos.
Redshirt freshman Kelly Jorgensen (Eden Prairie, Minn.) provided 13
kills off a blistering .565 hitting percentage, while also adding
two block assists. Senior Amanda Neuhalfen (Arlington, Neb.)
chipped in her top individual performance of the year with 10
kills, two digs and one block solo.
Sophomore Jen Jung (Andover, Minn./Coon Rapids) put together an
astounding 11 block assists, along with two block solos and nine
kills. Jung's 11 block assists marked a career high.
Junior Kali Jeter (Middleton, Wis.) contributed seven kills, seven
digs, and two block assists.
Senior Amanda Mackenthun (Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) handed out
28 assists, while newcomer Alison Greene (Andover, Minn./Totino
Grace) assisted on 18 kills.
Sophomore Kelsey Skoog (Long Lake, Minn./Orono) led all players
with 20 digs.
Mary Kate Glowe led Ashland with 23 kills and Lynsey Warren led all
setters with 33 helpers.
For the match, Tech compiled a .300 hitting percentage, compared to
a .180 mark for AU. The Huskies filed a 19-5 advantage in total
blocks over the Eagles.
Michigan Tech hosts Findlay continues GLIAC tomorrow with a contest
against Findlay at the SDC Gym. The match is set to start at 4
p.m.
