Jeter Leads Tech With Double-Double
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- Despite playing its third match in as
many days, the Michigan Tech volleyball team came away with a 3-1
(30-18, 17-30, 30-18, 30-25) victory in Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference action Monday night at Cooper Gym. The win
moved the Huskies into a four-way tie for third in the GLIAC
standings, as they are now 5-5 in league play and 9-10 overall. The
Lakers fell to 2-8 in the GLIAC and 5-14 overall.
"It was nice to get a win on the road, especially with the extended
travel period we went through in the last few day," said head coach
Krista Mikesch. "This win puts us right into the mix in our
conference standings as we prepare for some big matches this
weekend. We are excited to be back in our gym against Ashland and
Findlay."
Junior Kali Jeter (Middleton, Wis.) registered her first
double-double of the 2006 campaign, as she finished with 11 kills,
11 digs, two services aces and one block assist. She was named the
Superior Player of the Match for her efforts.
Sophomore Veronica Armstrong (Battle Creek, Mich./Central) nearly
picked up a double-double of her own, as she pitched in 11 digs,
nine kills, two service aces and block assist. Sophomore Jen Jung
(Andover, Minn./Coon Rapids) compiled 11 kills, three block solos
and three block assists. Redshirt freshman Kelly Jorgensen (Eden
Prairie, Minn.) converted 11 kills, along with four block assists
and one block solo. Sophomore Christa Jung (Andover, Minn./Coon
Rapids) tallied five kills and four block assists.
Senior Amanda Mackenthun (Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) handed out
22 assists, while fellow setter freshman Alison Greene (Andover,
Minn./Totino Grace) helped out on 21 kills.
Sophomore libero Kelsey Skoog (Long Lake, Minn./Orono) poured in 21
digs on the night, her second-highest total of the year.
Ashley Wyers led LSSU's offensive attack with 16 helpers, while
Erin McLain doled out 39 helpers for the Lakers.
Tech held an 11-9 edge in blocks and won the digs (65-53) battle.
The Huskies pulled out a slim 48-46 advantage in assists.
Michigan Tech is back at home for its next four matches, including
a contest against Ashland on Saturday (Oct. 6) and a dual with
Findlay on Saturday (Oct. 7).
