HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Michigan Tech won its fifth consecutive match
and second of the week against an Upper Peninsula rival tonight
with a convincing 3-0 score against Lake Superior State. Game
scores were 30-11, 30-20, and 30-21. A total of 12 Huskies played
in the match, helping the team to 13-10 overall record and 9-5
slate in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
"We played very well tonight and stuck to our game plan for the
entire match," said head coach Krista Mikesch. "It was nice to get
everyone playing time."
Tech used a 10-0 run early in the first game behind to grab a 12-2
lead it would never relinquish. Kelsey Skoog served 13 of the 30
points in the game with two service aces, and Kelly Jorgensen
tallied five kills in the game.
With the scored tied at 17-all in the next game, the Huskies
outscored the Lakers, 13-3, to close out game two. They opened game
three with a 10-3 advantage and cruised to a 30-21 triumph.
Middle hitters Jen Jung and Jorgensen paced the Huskies in kills
with 13 and 11, respectively. Jung finished with with a .632
hitting percentage and five block assists. Jorgensen hit .588 and
added four block assists. Senior Amanda Neuhalfen was the third
Tech player in double figures in kills with 10. She was named
Superior Player of the Match.
Amanda Mackenthun tallied 25 assists and a pair of service aces.
Skoog notched 23 digs in addition to her strong serving.
Michigan Tech will travel to Duluth, Minn., next Tuesday (Oct. 17)
for a non-conference tilt at fifth-ranked Minnesota Duluth. Opening
serve is set for 8 p.m. (ET).
Notes: Tech's last loss was to undefeated Hillsdale back on Oct. 1
