HUSKIES SWEEP MINNESOTA DULUTH WITH 3-1 WIN!

Teslak Earns Sixth Win After Making 30 Saves

DULUTH, Minn -- The Michigan Tech (6-17-1, 5-10-1 WCHA) hockey team scored three unanswered goals and Michael-Lee Teslak stopped 30-of-31 shots to stake the Huskies to a 3-1 win and series-sweep of Minnesota Duluth (8-12-1, 5-8-3 WCHA) in front of 5,041 at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center Saturday night.

Unlike Friday night, UMD struck first just 3:08 into the contest off a goal from Matt McKnight, his eighth of the year.

Shots were tied at 9-9 after one period of play.

The Huskies tied the game up at 3:34 of the second stanza when Ryan Angelow lit the lamp for the third time in his rookie campaign. The center banged home his own rebound from a shallow angle on the right side of the net and in the process became the top goal scorer among Tech's freshmen.

Captain Brandon Schwartz provided the game-winning marker, his eighth overall tally of the season, at the 7:18 mark in the third stanza. The goal was made possible by Peter Rouleau, who compiled his first point in a Husky uniform with the assist. Rouleau chipped the puck around a UMD defenseman in the neutral zone and once inside the blue line he directed a sharp pass across the front of the net to his linemate. Schwartz flipped the puck past Bulldog goalie Isaac Reichmuth top shelf on the stick side.

Tech added an insurance goal just :22 later, as Justin St. Louis tallied his second lamplighter of the weekend to push his season point total to 2-6--8. He now leads all Husky freshmen in scoring.

UMD pulled Reichmuth for the extra attacker with 1:31 left in regulation, but the attempt was futile for the second consecutive night.

Reichmuth made 22 saves in a losing cause for the home team.

The Bulldogs held a 31-25 edge in shots on goal over the Huskies.

MTU held UMD scoreless in seven power play chances, while it was shut out in three opportunities with a man advantage.

Michigan Tech has now amassed 11 points in Western Collegiate Hockey Association competition and is tied for eighth with St. Cloud State in the league standings. The Huskies host Alaska Anchorage next Friday (Jan. 20) and Saturday (Jan. 21) at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The puck will drop at 7:07 p.m. both nights.

Notes:

• Saturday represented Tech's first sweep since Feb. 4-5, 2005, when the Huskies defeated Minnesota Duluth, 3-2, in consecutive games at the DECC. It is also the first back-to-back sweep for MTU over UMD in Duluth since the Huskies achieved the feat in 1970 and 1971. The Huskies are 4-1-1 in their last six meetings against UMD.

• Brandon Schwartz extended his point streak (1-1--2) to two games with his goal tonight. The forward notched his first gamewinner of the season and the third of his career. He has recorded 4-5--9 in his last six games vs. Minnesota Duluth and holds 7-9--16 in 16 prior games against UMD.

• UMD's one-goal output was the lowest total allowed by MTU since a 1-0 setback at Denver in the WCHA Playoffs Mar. 12, 2005.

• Tech is 4-2-0 in its last six WCHA games.
