DETROIT, Mich. -- Brandon Schwartz tallied a goal and an assist
and Chris Conner recorded two assists, but three goals in the final
period gave #6 Michigan (12-6-1, 7-3-1 CCHA) a 5-3 win over the
Michigan Tech (4-17-1, 3-10-1 WCHA) hockey team in the third place
game of the 41st annual Great Lakes Invitational Friday night at

Conner rifled a shot from the slot off the right pipe, where
Schwartz tapped the rebound past Sauer on the glove side. Schwartz
netted his seventh goal of the year, while Conner secured his
team-leading ninth assist of the 2005-06 campaign.
MTU lit the lamp again just over 2:00 later when Lars Helminen
blasted home a one-timer from the point on the power play to give
the home team a 3-1 cushion. Conner compiled his second helper of
the game on the play and his 10th of the season. Schwartz was
credited with the second assist on the goal, his eighth of the
year.
Matt Hunwick cut the score to 3-2 for Michigan with a power-play
marker at 12:37 of the second stanza.
The Wolverines put up two 5-on-5 tallies in the final period, as

Kolarik provided the gamewinner at the 16:56 mark. Tim Miller
tacked on an empty-net goal with :32 left in regulation.
