HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Michigan Tech freshman Ryan Angelow tallied
his first career goal, but a Rastislav Spirko hat trick helped
ninth-ranked North Dakota skate to a 6-1 victory in Western
Collegiate Hockey Association action Friday night at the John
MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Rookie netminder Michael-Lee Teslak
finished with 38 saves in the contest for the Huskies.
Spirko notched the only goal of the opening frame at the 17:02 mark
to give UND a 1-0 lead after compiling a 11-5 shot advantage.
The Fighting Sioux scored three times in the second stanza, as
Travis Zajac netted a shorthanded marker at 3:05 and Spirko added
two more tallies at 15:21 and 18:21.
Andrew Kozek made the score 4-0 at 5:19 of the third period.
Angelow broke up the visitors' shutout attempt at the 11:20 mark of
the period when he beat UND netminder Jordan Parise with a wrist
shot from the low slot. Justin St. Louis contributed the third
assist of his freshman campaign on the goal, while Chris Conner
chipped in his sixth helper of the year.
T.J. Oshie tagged on one more tally for North Dakota at 18:06.
Parise ended the night with 18 saves in net for UND.
Michigan Tech went 0-for-5 on the power play and held the Fighting
Sioux scoreless in eight chances with a man advantage.
The final shot total was 44-19 in favor of North Dakota.
MTU is now 2-12-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the WCHA, while UND owns a
9-5-1 clip overall and a 5-4-0 mark in league competition. The two
teams will meet again tomorrow night at the John MacInnes Student
Ice Arena. Opening faceoff is set for 7:07 p.m.
