Biography

Joe Haggenmiller, who has had athletes qualify for nationals inall three sports he’s coached, begins his eighth year atMichigan Tech in 2009.

During his career, he has coached 23 national qualifiers andfive All-Americans.

The Twin Cities, Minn., native began his tenure at Tech inAugust, 2003, and the Huskies endurance programs have flourishedunder his leadership.

Haggenmiller was a standout in cross country, Nordic skiing, andtrack and field while attending Northern Michigan from 1988-91. Hisrunning personal bests are sub 16:00 (5K), sub 34:00 (10K), and sub2:45 (Marathon). In addition, he has been a competitor at theUnited States and Canadian National Skiing Championships, theOlympic Skiing Trials, and the U.S. Ski Team Trials on 12 differentoccasions. He is a past Master’s national champion (15K CL,2004) and a Junior Olympic medal winner (20K FS, 1989). He hastrained extensively with five different NCAA national ski championsand coached many Junior Olympic medalists, some of whom werenational champions.

Haggenmiller earned a bachelor of science degree from NorthernMichigan in 1991 before going on to gain his juris doctor degreefrom the University of Utah in 1994. He is also licensed topractice law in the State of Michigan, however, his coaching dutieshave kept him relatively inactive in the legal profession.

He is a USA Track and Field Certified Coach and a USSAProfessional Coach in Nordic Skiing.

Haggenmiller is married to Amy Hume Haggenmiller from Marquette,Mich. The couple has two daughters, Gretchen and Lucia.
