  • Baltus and Hanna Join Huskies Hockey Squad

    The Michigan Tech hockey team has signed two more players to National Letters of Intent to join the Huskies’ program. Brent Baltus (Nanaimo, B.C.) and Shane Hanna (Salmon Arm, B.C.) will join four other student-athletes who will begin their careers this fall. Four others who have already signed NLIs will not enroll until fall 2014.
  • Hockey Hands Out 2012-13 Team Awards

    Sophomore forward Blake Pietila was named the Merv Youngs Award winner as Michigan Tech hockey’s 2012-13 most valuable player as the Huskies handed out their awards at a team meal last night. A total of nine players earned awards at the event.
  • Conner Playing with the NHL's Coyotes

    Former Michigan Tech hockey player Chris Conner (Westland, Mich.) has played three games with the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes after being called up last Wednesday (April 3) from their AHL affiliate Portland Pirates. Conner, who played at Tech from 2002-06, is with his fourth different NHL team since joining the professional ranks in 2006.

  • WCHA Announces Future Playoff Format; Unveils Updated Logo

    The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today announced that its highly-successful men’s playoff championship – known as the WCHA Final Five – will head to Van Andel Arena and the City of Grand Rapids, Mich., for the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons and will return to Xcel Energy Center and the City of Saint Paul, Minn., for the 2014-15 and 2016-17 campaigns.

  • North Dakota Ends Tech's Hockey Season in Playoff Game 3

    No. 4-ranked North Dakota scored one goal in the first period, four in the second and one more in the third to beat Michigan Tech 6-0 tonight and earn a best-of-three WCHA Playoff series win two games to one. The hosts came out firing early and got some bounces along the way to advance to the WCHA Final Five. Tech’s season ends with a 13-20-4 record.
  • Huskies Upset North Dakota to Force Game Three

    Pheonix Copley made 29 saves and C.J. Eick scored the game-winning goal with 2:02 left to play to lift Michigan Tech to a 2-1 victory at No. 4 North Dakota tonight. With the win, the Huskies forced a decisive game in the best-of-three series tomorrow night at 8:07 p.m.
  • No. 4 North Dakota Downs Tech 5-3 in Playoff Opener

    Tonight’s opening game of the WCHA playoffs featured eight goals and 22 penalties as No. 4 North Dakota claimed a 5-3 victory over Michigan Tech. Despite their top two scorers being out of the game (one with injury and the other because of a penalty), the Huskies closed to within 4-3 and hit a pipe on a potential game-tying goal in the closing minutes.

    Michigan Tech held a 49-24 advantage in shots on goal and an 82-37 margin in total shots attempted, but couldn’t overcome an early 3-0 deficit in a 4-3 loss to Colorado College in the final game of the WCHA regular season tonight. The Huskies battled back to within a goal twice and peppered Tigers’ netminder Joe Howe with a season-high number of shots on goal but could not complete the comeback.

    Freshman goaltender Jamie Phillips made 22 saves to backstop Michigan Tech to a 2-0 shutout victory over Colorado College tonight at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Huskies scored in the first 10 minutes of the game and added an empty netter in the final minute to earn their 12th win of the season.

The Tech athletic department is lowering ticket prices for the weekend to sell out the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena for the final series of the regular season.

    Freshman goaltender Jamie Phillips made 36 saves in his second career start to help Michigan Tech to a 5-1 victory at WCHA-leading St. Cloud State tonight at the National Hockey Center. Tech scored 28 seconds into the game and went on to tally four more to gain the series split with No. 7-ranked SCSU and its first win in St. Cloud since 1998.

    Michigan Tech scored three goals in a five-minute span in the third period to pull within one, but it was No. 7-ranked St. Cloud State gaining a 5-3 victory in WCHA play at the National Hockey Center tonight. Trailing 4-0 midway through the third period, Tech scored three consecutive goals. SCSU tallied its fifth goal at the 15:34 mark and held on for the victory.

    The Michigan Technological University Board of Control today approved the purchase of a $615,000 video scoreboard for the John J. MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Work on the project will begin immediately with completion scheduled for this summer.

  • Former Husky Rolston Named Head Coach of NHL's Sabres

    Former Michigan Tech hockey player Ron Rolston was named interim head coach of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres last night. The Fenton, Mich., native played forward for the Huskies from 1986-89, amassing 31 goals and 37 assists in 110 career games.
  • Minnesota State Beats Tech 6-1 Saturday

    No. 9 Minnesota State completed the sweep of Michigan Tech with a 6-1 victory tonight at Verizon Wireless Center. The Huskies, who held a 38-28 advantage in shots on goal and seemed to also have the edge in quality scoring chances, deserved a better fate but didn’t get the bounces.

Kevin Genoe (Qualicum Beach, B.C.) and Brad Stebner (Fort McMurray, Alb.) were repeat honorees while Tanner Kero (Hancock, Mich.) and Daniel Sova (Cottage Grove, Minn.) were first-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award winners.

    Michigan Tech scored four goals in the first period and four more in the second to clobber arch rival Northern Michigan 8-2 tonight at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Blake Pietila and Tanner Kero both had four-point nights to pace the Huskies to their best goal total in the series with the Wildcats.
